GoPro Hero 10 Review (2026): It’s Now a $250 Camera — Here’s What to Buy

A black action camera with a small glowing front display resting on light sand beside the ocean

The GoPro Hero 10 was the year GoPro made its biggest internal leap in a decade: new GP2 processor, 5.3K60, 10-bit color, front touchscreen — launched at $379.99 in September 2021. Gadgetping reviewed it back in 2022 — without ever printing the price. Four years later, the twist: unlike its older siblings, the Hero 10 is still on sale — $249.99 at gopro.com, 34% under launch. Here’s what’s still on sale, what the 2022 review got wrong, and the six cameras to buy, with real street prices.

GoPro Hero 10 (2026): What’s Still on Sale

The Hero 10 brought the GP2 processor (about 50% faster than the GP1), 5.3K60 and 4K120, 23MP photos, 10-bit color, front touch display, built-in front mounts, and HyperSmooth 4.0 in every mode.

Amazon.de / Amazon.fr Live and in stock (ships in 2–5 days)
Amazon US Featured offer unavailable; third-party offers ~$273–319
Used market ~$150–180; owners still use them daily

So the honest answer: the one 2021 action camera you can still buy new cheaply. The question: does the "cheap 2021 flagship" beat the current lineup — or a DJI?

The 2022 Review, Checked

A few corrections from re-reading:

The 2022 post said What’s actually true
"changes in all the other fissures… much better results in Lolite" The improvements were in the processor and low-light processing — the Hero 10’s biggest jump
"the GoPro Hero 9 could capture 5K DVDs… capture 120fps DV in 4K" The Hero 9 captured 5K at 30fps; the Hero 10 added 5.3K60 and 4K120
"the battery charge is much higher when recording these videos" Inverted — high frame rates drain the battery faster
No price anywhere in the post $379.99 at launch — and now $249.99 at gopro.com
"get a discount using my coupon" No coupon existed; the Amazon link had no tag either

One thing the 2022 post couldn’t have known: three more generations shipped after it (HERO11, 12, 13) — and then no HERO 14. GoPro skipped the name and launched the MISSION 1 series in May 2026, leaving the Hero 10 as the value end of the range.

GoPro HERO10 Black. The post’s own camera — and still a real buy. GP2, 10-bit, HyperSmooth 4.0: not replaced, only refined — and at $249.99 on gopro.com it’s the best value GoPro makes. It’s $110 cheaper than the LIT HERO, with a far better camera. Check the price on Amazon

GoPro HERO13 Black. The current HERO: 5.3K60 and 4K120, HyperSmooth 6.0, restored GPS, 27MP photos, HB-Series lenses. Launched at $399.99, now $379 at Amazon. The extra $130 buys four years of refinements and the lens system. Check the price on Amazon

GoPro MISSION 1. The May 2026 flagship: 50MP 1-inch sensor, GoPro’s new GP3 processor, 8K30 and 4K120 OpenGate, 14-stop dynamic range, from $599 (MFT-mount ILS variant $699.99). Cinema-grade video that survives a duffel. Check the price on Amazon

DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro. The value king: bigger 1/1.3-inch sensor, much better low light, 4K120, 20m bare, 47GB inside, roughly double the battery — for $319 ($349 list). PCMag’s Editors’ Choice and the 2026 value winner. Check the price on Amazon

Insta360 X5. The 360° pick: 8K30, 15m waterproof, 3-hour battery, replaceable lenses, shoot-first-frame-later. $549.99 list, $465 at Amazon. If your idea of an action camera is "be anywhere in the shot," this is it. Check the price on Amazon

GoPro LIT HERO. The 2025 entry model at $269.99: tiny, 4K60, built-in front torch, 10m bare. Reviews are fair — great pocket camera, but no in-camera stabilization. Honest note: it costs more than the better Hero 10. Check the price on Amazon

Worth a one-liner: the Insta360 Ace Pro 2 (~$399) for 8K detail, the GoPro MAX 2 (~$500) for GoPro-ecosystem 360°, and a used Hero 10 (~$150–180) as a durable work camera.

How to Choose: New vs Used, GoPro vs DJI

  • New Hero 10 vs new HERO13. The Hero 10 at $249.99 wins for value — same core pipeline, older low light, no GPS, no HB lenses. The HERO13 at $379 is worth it for longevity and the lens system.
  • Used is the real deal. A used Hero 10 for ~$150–180 is the best $150 in action cameras, full stop — owners still use them daily, Enduro battery fits.
  • Low light decides GoPro vs DJI. The Action 5 Pro’s bigger sensor and night mode beat every GoPro from the Hero 8 through the Hero 13 in dim conditions. Daylight, they’re close.
  • Battery and depth. DJI records ~2 hours at 4K60 and dives to 20m bare; Hero 10/13 do ~1 hour and need a case past 10m.
  • 360 is a workflow, not a spec. X5 or MAX 2 footage needs reframing in the app, but you never miss the shot.

What Owners Actually Say

The r/gopro January 2026 Hero 10 thread: "I still use my 10 (even thou I have 12 too), it’s perfectly capable camera, the newer models brought nothing for first time user… the gopros are mostly identical since 8" — and: "For a first action cam the Hero 10 at that price is solid, the main upgrades in 11/12 are better low light and longer battery life but nothing crazy different." The mid-2026 thread adds the low-light gripe that keeps pushing buyers to DJI: "no GoPro I’ve used has been good in low light. It’s my biggest gripe."

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you still buy the GoPro Hero 10 new in 2026?

Yes — unlike the Hero 9, it’s still for sale. gopro.com lists it at $249.99 (launch $379.99), Amazon.de and .fr show it in stock; US third-party offers run ~$273–319.

Was the Hero 10 a good camera?

Yes — the biggest GoPro leap of its generation: new GP2 processor, 5.3K60, 4K120, 10-bit color, front touchscreen, HyperSmooth 4.0 in all modes. In 2026 its footage still holds up.

Is the Hero 10 better than the new LIT HERO?

On paper, yes — 5.3K vs 4K60, a far better sensor, real stabilization, for $20 less. The LIT wins only on size and the front torch.

What’s the difference between a Hero 10 and the DJI Action 5 Pro?

The DJI: bigger sensor, much better low light, double the depth, longer battery, 47GB inside — at a $70 premium. The GoPro: ecosystem, Quik, streaming maturity, and the cheaper price.

Why is there no HERO 14?

GoPro skipped the name — the May 2026 MISSION 1 series (50MP 1-inch sensor, 8K30 OpenGate, from $599) took the top of the lineup, leaving the Hero 10 as the value entry.

So the map: best value, the Hero 10 itself at $249.99. Current everything, the HERO13 at $379. Cinema-grade, the MISSION 1 at $599. Low light and battery life, the DJI at $319. 360°, the X5 at $465. And the used GoPro Hero 10 at ~$150: the strongest $150 in action cameras, five years in.
